Considering an offer there. How much do you believe the work is interesting from an ml perspective and how is the relationship with the pm team? Any view on which products gets the most visibility internally? Also, how do the levels map to say fb or google levels? I know of levels.fyi but Pinterest isn’t there.
Our levels are meant to map 1:1 to Google/FB.
Google and Facebook don't match each other, so could you be more specific?
Well, i have been at both google and fb, overall I found the level largely match. But maybe you meant to ask, does Pinterest tend to promo quickly like fb and has a up or out culture until l5?
If you think the offer is good then take it. Lots of exciting projects with direct impact. Don't dismiss Ads either. Right now here it's very siloed. Ads side of the house and organic side rarely share anything aside from core platforms so lots of different use cases and systems to work with there as well.
Thanks! How is the relationship with the pm team? Some people told me that most decisions come from pms without engineering involvement but some other people are saying otherwise and so I’d like to know more :)
I’ve been here a few years and I’ve always had the impression that eng had a strong voice in all orgs. Possible that it might vary org to org though.
Highly team dependant. I would agree with above poster - some eng do a lot of innovating on their end with little pm involvement (this is my case). Honestly I'd like a bit more pm interaction but it works out quite well. Organic side might be different, I work on ads.
What is organic side? Search and Discovery!?
yep
Work is interesting and unique technically and teams are small, so there are good opportunities for both ML and infra work in many teams. Discovery, content and ads all have solid opportunities for experienced ML engineers. Levels map closely to Google/FB. Possibly we have fewer very senior levels (7+) relative to those places.
What’s your offer ?
I don’t know yet, I will find out
What to expect for pibterest T5 offer?
Going there soon, feeling like the people are really nice and looks like will be working on fun stuff. Seems like the team you talked about are really close to the one I’m joining :)
Congrats, are you going in ML? What’s is the range of offer they are giving. I am interested as well.
As a pm on an ml team I can say that the decisions are very data driven, and come from both pm and eng. Generally very rationale. Plus, lots of green field to really make a dent from an ml perspective. Feel free to DM me if you'd like more info

Was this for normal SWE or for a particular ML role?
Is there a difference? I am considering only ml product teams to do a mix of infra and ml. I’d be a software engineer.
Ads or organic?
