Hi, i have a potential offer from Pivotal. I see the layoff news, is it worth pursuing? The recruiter said the new role is approved by vmware.
I wouldn't pursue it if you have better options. Pivotal is a consultancy, so you'll likely work long hours with deadlines. And their pay is so-so. I'd reject Pivotal's offer and keep studying and interviewing, unless you've already done hundreds of LeetCode problems and have exhausted all interview options, or are unemployed.
Is it really that bad? I am interviewing with them and WLB is a selling point.
This is not true. People end the day at 5 or 6 in most orgs.
Hey OP, tag pivotal to get Blinders from the company to share insights
GO<GO> has it wrong. 40 hour work weeks, no deadlines.
💯
Are you guys worried about the layoffs? I am starting as a PM in January
No, I think ICs are pretty safe
R&D is mostly unaffected. @polarvorx, YOE, TC?
Pivotal doesn’t pay well but it is/was a very enjoyable place to work (WLB, great culture and people, impacting huge enterprises). We’ll see if any of that changes.
I do think there’s a possibility that once VMW takes better stock of what/whom they’ve acquired, they’ll start making cuts to engineers at some point next year.
No one is safe
Pivotal is a very nice place to work. I'd reject better offers from bigger companies if that offer was not tooooo much better. People do good life balance here and we're not consultancy company as Go-go said. We have lot of open source products actually...
The layoffs shouldn’t really affect you.
