Hi All,

I received an offer from FB for E4 level Software Engineer. I think offer could have been better if I did system design round well. Interview prep has been difficult these days due to family commitments but I could keep trying. I am thinking if I should move or stay. WLB is good at Wayfair. I also think I got down leveled coz of interview performance. I don’t have competing offers. Appreciate your help.

I find project to be a fairly broad term. A tiny feature affecting a small group of internal users could be a project.. And launching a 3d virtual world could be a project.

Think of a product that a team owns and supports. An E6 will drive the whole thing. E5 will drive a parts of it in alignment with E6. E4 will work on parts handed over to them.

Try a better level. Don’t jump for a pure 70k before tax especially you have that much experience. I totally regret jumping to a company but got downleveded. You basically waste at least 1-2 yrs and you peers are very inexperienced. A better interview can easily bring you to e5 in fb or equivalent level in faang. Or may even get you to level 6. Indeed Faang lower level TC will beat a lot of other managers from smaller companies but your job duties still matters. You definitely don’t want to compete with FB fresh grads E4 in simple project executions. They are young and can burn midnight oils to finish the jobs faster and with a solid quality and you are in a bad shape.

Clearly you haven’t heard work intensity and peer pressure in FB. You don’t have enough time to keep interview then most likely you don’t have enough time to distinct yourself in FB. WLB is a different level from Wayfair. Be ready to reply message, commit and code review, and post your things to add “impacts” at midnight and over the weekend. You may be surprised how working hard those new grads E4 will be. But ultimately it is still your choice best luck then I just posted what I know.

I have heard a bit from my friends, but wanna see how it actually feels. Will give it a shot anyway. Are there any things that you suggest I do so that I could excel there. Also, were you at FB before or you have heard this from other folks..and if so at what level?

If it's really interview prep, we'll promote you quickly. In general, FB pays near top of market and invests in its people, so if you're pursuing career goals, we'll take care of you.

Thanks. What kind of expectations are there for someone to get promoted to E5. Also, what difference in responsibilities between E4 and E5?
