I recently accepted a L5 TPM offer from Amazon Seattle. The work sounds really interesting but I am not feeling excited when I read about Seattle weather, higher COL and all the stories about Amazon here. I am married with no kids. My wife is working and plan is to stay in her current job until she finds a good opportunity in Seattle. We both are on H1 and hold Canadian PR. The positive things I can think about is Amazon brand name, option to move to India/Canada through internal move and what else 🤔 ? I am worried about depressing weather in Seattle, almost double the house rent and COL, WLB may be bad and have to leave my spouse behind. I know I shouldn't have accepted offer if I wasn't sure. I understand If I renege now, I may be burning the bridge but I don't want to regret on this decision if things don't work out. I would like to hear from blind community and if you guys can provide some suggestions? I think you will get laid more in Texas than Seattle. Many hot latinas.
He is married🤔🤣
Oath - C'mon man, there is so much more in life than getting laid.
The weather is not that bad really.
I heard summer is good but 8 months of winter are always dark and horrible?
The weather is terrible. This year was a less shitty year than usual.
Stay in Texas with your wife if you don’t want her to leave you
I would go to amazon to open up career further in the future
I am in the same boat kinda. Moving in 3 weeks from east coast to Seattle. Nervous about weather and hcol but if you don’t take risks you don’t get big rewards. Also many other tech companies in Seattle
Thanks, good to know. Where do you plan to stay there?
Corporate housing for 75 days then look for something cheap until my partner comes out there. She too is staying while we sell the house and until she finds a job. I don’t have kids so that makes it way easier but was looking at buying north of Seattle. Seems reasonably priced. You can find place for $500-650k. If you go south of Seattle I see places on Zillow around $350k-$450k
If you own a home it’s 75 days and 45 days if you don’t. Also lump sum was a pretty bad deal at least for me. I would not rent a luxury apt or in a high rise. I have been looking and there are decent options $1500-$2000 near a bus line, 20 to 30 minute commute
What was the relocation amount? I am kind of same boat thinking of lump sum?
Texas. Just made the move from Texas to Seattle a year back. Regretting it . Sure Seattle is a cool city. But love the quality of life you can get with lesser money, food etc in Texas .
How easy is to move internally to Austin or another lesser COL city?
I'm sure it is easy. I moved from another company to Amazon (Texas to Seattle)..and lived exactly where you work (in vicinity of CVS health ). So I definitely know the type of life , you'll miss if you move to Seattle..if you really want to be in Amazon, try applying to Austin roles?
Seems same TC for expensive place
Yeah, except a better brand name on resume
Same feeling for me OP
Level at CVS?
Is annual bonus fixed?
No, performance based but varies between 18k-20k
