https://www.bloomberg.com/amp/news/articles/2017-11-06/trump-s-h-1b-reform-is-to-make-life-hell-for-immigrants-and-companies Is this affecting folks at non bodyshop companies?
AFAIK not affecting mainstream Bay area tech companies
Haha... Looks like a good thing
Haven’t heard of anyone at Apple getting RFE’d (there might be someone, I just haven’t heard of them). There are multiple wage levels, and filings that specify “Level 1” wages are being the most hit. This is probably not a bad thing.
The immigration lawyers are probably just ticked off that they have to do actual work now, as opposed to just following the templates year after year. The decade-plus wait for green cards has been great easy money for immigration lawyers who get paid for every H-1B renewal. If green cards were quicker, they’d make far less “easy money”, since you don’t need an immigration lawyer for anything once you’ve received the card.
+1. Immigration lawyers are one of the biggest beneficiaries of the GC backlogs.
Can't agree enough. Some of these lawyers are asking for discharge petition for the house bill 392. This is so that people will think this is amazing idea and will start making noise. Sure enough, people at siia started asking. 🤦♂️ Asking for discharge petition is sure shot way to gut the bill. Majority of immigrant crowd thinks lawyers know everything and are the most knowledgeable, so must give you the best guidance. Unfortunately they are, as correctly pointed out, biggest beneficiary and are the worse people to seek advice if you want to fix the backlog.
