Saw this post on HN and was wondering if you guys feel the same "Since the release of ChatGPT I can't help it but be pessimistic about what the future holds for the field of software engineering. As a Junior developer I'm so thankful for the constant learning I'm experiencing at work and despite the low impact I have on issues/code base I'm always making sure that I take it one day at a time. I keep hearing friends and people online saying that the calculator didn't replace mathematicians and that Excel didn't replace accountants, but I can't help it to be anxious and think of ChatGPT replacing me and is making my imposter syndrome worse. I wanted to ask HN and see what they think of my fears, am I unreasonable? I know that I should not fear such tool but make sure I learn it and have it help me become more productive. Any tips or recommendations on how to deal with such anxiety/fear. Thank you in advance." Source: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=34564179 #engineering #software #swe #sde
Uhh. The things I read in this flipping app.
I worry about chatgpt but I don't worry about it in a personal sense. There's not a single human endeavour that AI can't do better than us. It will be better at programming, at healthcare, art, music, everything. Hell, it can probably learn to be a better relationship partner than most people can be (imagine an AI robot that's better looking than Henry Cavill and also programmed with an amazing personality). But of course most people won't take this seriously until it starts happening
You might feel better to know that there’s a condition where technology in general is moving way too quickly for some people and it’s resulting in quite a bit of anxiety. You should go talk to a therapist because while this fear is localized to CharGPT, therapists are aware of tech being scary and can help you. Your fear is real and there is help available. If it helps, I see ChatGPT much as your friends view the calculator - it’s a tool. Your skills are still needed. People said the same thing when software to make websites came out, replacing a lot of hard coding needs. You still need smart humans to maintain robots/software/tech and, most importantly, keep those systems honest and free of bad actors.
If you input your work item and chatgpt outputs a PR link, then you start worrying l. Till then, its an extremely helpful and timesaving tool
Give 10 more years , i think that would be possible 😰
