In 10 years at Apple I only know 2 people who were in the org. They both left pretty quickly after realizing what was going on... Typically these guys are at a point when they don’t need to work anymore, they’re here to show everyone else how it’s done. If nobody’s gonna listen, they’ll leave as quickly as they showed up. Not taking any shit from dum dums. Anyway, that’s my experience of ICT6.

ICT6 here. I joined Apple earlier this year directly at that level. I’ve been in software for about 15 years.

As I said on another thread, I’m not a distinguished engineer type nor a leader in my field. Riccio doesn’t know me and there are actually at least two other ICT6 engineers on my direct team. I feel ICT6 means different things in different orgs.

ICT6 is one step from distinguished engineer. Think Woz. So if you're leading the industry in a particular domain, maybe? But not likely.

I’ve heard of one guy, he was a director at a small firm, they offered him a Sr IC6 role and then promoted to Sr Manager after a couple of yrs
