I’m getting out of the military next year. My jobs have been a wide mix within IT management from (Mostly Data Center Ops, Technical Project Management and Infosec). BS in Industrial Engineering, MS in Engineering Management, PMP, CISSP & Sec+, TS/SCI clearance YOE: 4 An AWS recruiter reached out to me about a Systems Engineering Manager position (not sure the level) and suggested I focus on Python, Bash & Linux before we talk again since I’ve mostly been a people manager (6 direct reports, 80 people under me etc.) rather than an IC and am lacking right now with coding skills. I’ve done some pentesting and basic coding before and I think the infosec side of things interests me the most, but im still a generalist and I feel like other areas might make more sense if I want to max TC as quickly as possible. What companies and positions would you shoot for? Any advice for me in general? TC: 75k-ish
Is your 75k TC what you're getting in the military as an 0-3? Do you think the RMC calculator is a good equivalent to what you'll need in the civilian side? Why are you going civilian btw?
Sorry for the late reply. Never saw the notification. Currently O2, almost O3. Actually more like 85k equivalent and will be closer to 95k equivalent at O3. RMC is pretty accurate overall, but I’ve run the numbers myself too for peace of mind. Way too many reasons, but the biggest one is that the military limits growth. I’m a high performer, but there’s no way for me to make any more money than just waiting around for the next promotion, especially when I have solid experience. Add that to having no control over your job, where you live etc. It’s an easy choice when you can make double or more and get your freedom back. Good experience, but no desire to keep going
@1u7das thanks for the reply. I've been toying with the idea. It's more of a personal accomplishment thing then for any monetary or patriotic reasons. I am working on the country's space program and worked at a private space company. I do agree I'll probably lose any career or project direction. My TC is probably around mid 90k. But it would cap near what an O 4 or 5 would make after 10years but without a pension promise and benefits of healthcare for life. When and at how much compensation do you think the offset of going private vs career mil? It looks like project managers for IT can make mid 100k . What is the least minimum TC your considering if recurving multiple offers?
It seems this job keeps opening and saw one opened 19days ago. Just wondering how much does it pay if Amazon will pay extra for TS/SCI.

Check out deployment strategist jobs at Palantir
Thanks! Just looked it up. That sounds pretty on par with my current skillset. I’m going to have to look into that more.
No problem - I interviewed for that job last year. Didn’t get it but the job sounded awesome. Especially so if you get in on the gov side and already have high clearance. One of my interviewers was ex-British army intelligence and used their platform while deployed. When he go out he wanted to work for a company that used Palantir but they recruited him instead lol
