Have offers from postmates and Walmart ecommerce. Confused which would be better place to start SWE career in US? Any thoughts?
Walmart for sure.
Walmart is more stable but it is a very toxic environment from a close friend. It’s very tribal Indian in his own words and he’s is Indian. Couldn’t stand that shit are his words. Postmates has their own issues but if you are turned off by a virtual h1b detention center, I suggest postmates.
Walmart eCommerce by far. They have been growing like crazy and are healthy competition for Amazon. A friend of mine left G to work for the ecommerce team. I’m not saying it’s the best role of all time but definitely much better than postmates.
Left g for Walmart? I thought I’ve seen it all.
Search ads can get boring from what I’ve heard. From Sr SWE to director but 15 YOE. Nice TC bump as well from what he told me.
I bet he or she isn’t going to stay long and jump to another director position then. It’s a shit show of epic proportions from my close friend , and the Glassdoor reviews are well documented
Walmart, but it depends on the team. Some teams are really good. It’s a big company with many acquisitions, so there is some baggage. As a business, it is doing really well. Engineering TC is also pretty good.
Walmart . Post mates is lot young grad crowd and if you want stability with clear direction then walmart and came to know from friend and can’t learn big system design as it try and error at postmates same. As doordash
Postmates for sure - they’re IPOing soon too
