Spoke with a recruiter a couple weeks back, about open project manager roles. None currently for my area (Texas), but she did say when a role turned up, I’d likely be brought in as a L64. For L64, this is the TC breakdown she mentioned: Base: 140-150K Bonus: 0-60% (20% target) Stock: $25-30K (I’ve forgotten the vesting period) Sign On: Negotiable Is this about on-target? I feel like the base and stock could be better. Also, how likely would it be to get an L65 offer in a year, if I’m getting L64 now? I’ve seen folks say MSFT doesn’t usually offer L65 to external candidates. TC: 130K YOE: Total: ~9; PjM: 5
Base seems okay but stocks are very less. Target minimum $250k for 4 years
That base is pretty low for L64
Target Bonus is 15%
Target for 170k base, 100k+ stocks and 30k+ signing bonus
Yeah I was thinking at least 170K base and 150-200K stocks. Thanks for confirming that I’m not tripping lol
What I'm saying is median salary for L64..target for that
Super lowball. Salary should be >$170k and stock >200k
You think so even with the location being Texas?
Very low ball. I’d walk because of how insulting that offer is
What would be more reasonable? Do you agree with the two comments posted before yours?
Yes. Those are both much closer to an L64 offer.
For an L64 it is a low offer, but it may be relative to what the team does and what they anticipate from your role. Ask the HM if unsure. Have they specified the area you will be responsible for, # of ppl reporting to you and their expectations of your pjm support? just things to consider. If they feel like any of these is low-key or not applicable, that may be why they think the offer is "fair". It is possible to get promoted to L65 within a year, but just brace for ppl to not be ok with your quick climb. I have met a few L65 who started externals as L64, very smart and nice, they just built a thick skin also have you considered getting offers from other competitors? that could be a good benchmark.
I got a similar offer. L64 (Public Sector) for the Northern VA area. $150K base, $20K sign on bonus, $50K stock options, bonus (15% target), I get a 20% bonus for Top Secret clearance and refreshers (based on performance). TC coming to around $240K+
Is this PM role in an Engineering or Non-Engineering org?

Intense low balling on base i think..
Check levels.fyi
I think so too. It’s hard on levels since they don’t have Project Manager listed (just product manager and management consultant), and none of the salaries are for Texas. Despite that tho, I’m seeing base salaries of 165-185 or so.
