On levels.fyi, the compensation of MSFT SDEs is close to 300K for level 63/64. For Indians who moved to Redmond from IDC, Hyderabad, are you able to save 1 cr per year (close to 150K per year) considering you have a family. If it is the case, then why would anyone of you will ever wanna move back to India? #compensation

Btw when you move internally, only base is changed according to new location. You will not get new RSU grants. So its hard to get 300k when you move from idc to Redmond.

  • If you can move to a different company after reaching Redmond, then you can save. Staying in MS I highly doubt. Also if you have good life and good relation with parents and in-laws and if your kid is enjoying the atmosphere then it may not worth moving

Did you account for the taxes? 1cr per year with single earning and family is not feasible IMO

For saving 1 cr inr after taxes in USA, you need tc somewhere around 400k. Taxes are high in USA.

$150k can buy a lot of things in India. You can buy a good flat close to Microsoft.

The same money is not a lot in bay area. It is not enough for a down payment of a house 1 hr from your work sometimes.

People who move back to India can enjoy the benefits of converting USD to INR, and for them who stay back in bay area, it is not a lot of money.
