Been in my current position for too long and want to leave to sell a GCloud. Can anyone at Google Cloud touch on the sales culture?#sales #enterprise

Have a good friend there that likes it, but it’s tough sledding. Google is trailing behind AWS and Azure, and there are whispers that if they can’t capture a certain percentage of the market they will pull the plug entirely.

Not a crazy possibility, Google cancels things all the time .

    • Lol the odds of that happening are slim to none, they are still building out billion dollar data centers for GCP. Their cloud ain’t goin anywhere. They might layoff their workforce however

They’ve been building out data centers for a long time, long before they ever had any commercial cloud offering. That’s one of the reasons why they are trailing behind, they’ve been trying to reuse something designed for Google.

Google historically lacks focus. What are they? A data company? A product company? A cloud company?

The list of canceled products exceeds the list of canceled celebrities in 2020.

Saw a review on compgauge.com (the sales tc site) that says regular google culture is vastly different than google cloud sales culture (in a bad way)

The answer to this is highly dependent on what market you cover, experience, and how you operate. If you are in a market with a lot of “traditional” companies, GCP is extremely hard to position against Microsoft and AWS and I know a lot of solid reps that aren’t doing well. GCP operates very much as a startup so the opportunity to do well is out there to grab for the right people, but they keep hiring people who are used to a Microsoft/Oracle selling mindset which just does not work considering their place in the market and primarily completely greenfield customers. Things are trending the right direction but YMMV.
