Well, I also got FB E5 and other offers. Google offered the most TC and with a really good team match. I believe I made the best choice given the options in my location (East Coast).

Cloud culture has changed recently to be fire first, ask questions later, thinking the Amazon model of employee relations should be applied to cloud in order to compete. So no prep, it will be a familiar environment for you.

Did TK bring this with him from Oracle?

Is this real? I mean, I would believe that cloud has higher NI% rate than other orgs, but I wouldnt think that it is that prevalent as Amazon PIP culture.

Really not much you can do since most tools are internal only. If you're really bored you could brush up on C++17 and/or Golang, or whatever your team is using. Maybe read a book about Google culture, and train your humility, since the first 6 months as L5 external hire are going to be humbling AF.

What’s the most humbling part?

As L5, you're expected to guide and mentor the L3s and L4s on your team, but a former intern L3 will be more knowledgeable on all aspects than you as an external hire L5, which really exacerbates impostor syndrome. You're also expected to produce high quality code and design documents, work across teams for the greater good of the org. As an new hire L4 or L6+ you can focus on one of these aspects, but as L5 you're kind of expected to do both. You'll constantly have to remind yourself that it's okay that when people ask your opinion in a meeting and all you have to contribute is "I'm not really familiar with that part yet, I'm going to have to do more research..."
