Preparing for pip or fire

Sep 10, 2020 8 Comments

I’m a new grad just joined ads team and have been at FB for 6 months. It’s been an absolute nightmare trying to work in this dev environment. I have 20+ tasks in backlog and they keep accruing.

I’m preparing to get pipped for performance. How should I prepare for this? How does severance work?

  • Pro tip,

I worked on an ads team before as a lowly e3. To get to the next level understand this:
There’s a ton of small unimportant bugs, fixes that aren’t really that high pri no matter what some might say. Focus on medium sized projects (building new ad format, buttons, logging framework, etc). Lower the pri on those tasks and don’t do them unless they really seem important

Ask your boss how you are doing and what you: can keep doing, or stop doing. Asking for feedback is something you should feel comfortable doing. Being a new grad means you need more support, so start there. If you get super bad feedback you can either decide to make major changes or start leetcoding! Either way life goes on.

Also ask your boss about getting a mentor.

Don’t worry... having work is really a good thing. Just organize it well... write down daily tasks and complete them. Try to do one extra task daily than in the plan.
    - if you cannot do not have a clue on certain task Raise a hand / seek for help than spending hrs / days with no output.
    - just focus on work and you should be fine.
