Not Tier 1 company with higher level and TC or tier 1 company? TC more than 50k. Assuming work are all the same.
Prestige isn’t a thing
Prestige is to impress people too dumb to know any better. And prestige ain’t paying my mortgage.
The benefits of working for a prestigious company usually goes to your mom.
Prestige > TC... if you have a mom who demands you work at a prestigious enough company for her to be able to brag about to her friends over dinner and in return she pays you more than the TC difference for your cooperation.
Lol
💩 post
It depends. Since TC is so heavily weighted towards stock, depending on the company it may be better to choose the more prestigious (higher quality stock) option.
In the end it's still TC. You're just arguing that you may expect higher TC from the more prestigious company when their stock vest.
Prestige is Citi not Chase
It actually depends on what stage you are in your career. Having a big name on resume increases credibility and you end up getting higher roles and higher pay when you shift jobs. This is because most smaller companies have to pay you the extra $$$ and give high positions of responsibility to make up for a dip in brand name.
This. Social capital is important and you get that through prestige.
Depends on what you mean by “prestige”. Generally speaking what you should concern more with is your personal prestige / resume strength (?). Lots of shitty engineers at Google, Facebook and other top firms. TC follows talent, and your personal “prestige” in that sense. Company names are correlated but not causal to that relationship. Good engineers will typically grow better at top companies working with other good engineers, but there are plenty of exceptions to this. As you find ways to grow though, so will your TC
Prestige isn’t a thing. There I fixed it
Prestige doesn’t pay the bills. Tc is all that matters.
