I took a stand and got terminated lol
Hey Folks, I have recently joined MS as L62 and would like to relocate to MS US(assuming the visa restrictions will be over soon). 1) How difficult is it to get interviews scheduled after reaching to HMs from careers page? 2) Will they prefer internal candidates from different location over external candidates from same location? # internaltransfer #indiatous TC : 28 base + 2.8 bonus(10 % target assumption) + 90k stocks(4 years)
Forget it.. there’re lot of peeps in the queue
Yeah ! Heard the response rate will be usually one among 50 mails.
1) It’s a hit or miss. There are literally hundreds of L62s who apply. And there’s a full interview loop after that. You have a better chance trying to move to your sister team if they have a presence. This usually eliminates the interview loop as well. 2) The other way round. They prefer external candidates from US because every manager knows that visa situation is a hit or miss, and ends up taking ~ 6 months from extending you an offer to getting you to the US. It’s easier to get an external hire if the project is critical and/or has tight deadlines. Budget is never really a problem for hiring managers. HR allocates budget according to the prevailing market conditions anyway. I don’t mean to discourage you. It’s very much possible. Just expect it to be a frustrating process that could take 1-1.5 years to fully realise.
@wicola : Thank you so much for the reply dude. It really helped me a lot to get the complete idea. How about moving to US in Google? is it difficult there too?
No problem dude, happy to help! It’s easier at Google because internal transfers don’t require interviews. Google believes in a consistent hiring bar across the company (because of hiring committees making decisions as opposed to managers). So you just find a team that interests you, probably do a 20% project on the team for a month to see how you like it, and then move to the team. Btw another way to move to the US from Microsoft is this: L1 visa requirements state that you should have worked at Microsoft for 1 full continuous year in the past 3 calendar years. You could technically quit Microsoft and then directly apply to a position in the US within 3 years of quitting. This ensures you get higher salary, sign on and stock because internal transfers don’t get allotted additional stock.
