Hi All, I have received a Process Engineer job offer at Intel AZ. What base package, grade, sign-on bonus, etc. should I expect? Need help with negotiation! I have Master's degree in Materials Science & Engineering. 1.5 years exp in Semiconductors in the US, 6 months internship experience in the US and previous 5 years work experience in India ( not in semiconductors). #intel
About 80 to 90k tc
Offered grade is 5...do I qualify for 6 based on my exp?
I was just interviewed at AZ.
That TC is good IMO.. for G5 and AZ location. Cost of living is low..
I made more than that in Michigan and with half the education.... that’s only a good offer south of Virginia And east of Texas.
Grade is based on managers discretion. If you over commit.. then expectations rise. I suggest you accept G5. Convey aspirations to manager after joining and then perform to get to G6. That would be better IMO.
What are you being offered right now?
82k base, grade 5, relocation not yet told, sign-on not yet told, bonuses as usual!
If you have to take the offer ... take it . But get on leet code or whatever you need to level up. With your education if you turn out to be a descent and competent engineer you deserve at least double. But it takes work.
Leet code for process engineering? WTF are you smoking?
I said leet code or whatever you need to level up.... learn to read.
It is almost close to impossible to negotiate a grade change once offered especially in the fab. Negotiation with pay is also negligible. They usually have a fixed scale for this. Relocation is standard across Intel. Depending from where you move. But my biggest question to you is that are you okay with the time commitment to the job? Are you okay working 60-70 hours a week at the minimum?
Just a verbal offer yet. Official offer letter not yet received. Job hours mentioned are 8 am to 5 pm. I am used to working long hours.
I don't think it is 60-70 hrs a week. I believe $82K is fair for a Process Eng. job for a grade 5 (in AZ).
I am a process engineer. This is just my experience. Most modules seem reasonable. Modules like dry etch, integration, litho require a lot more hours.
I did a bit of research on the internet and $82k for G5 seems okay, but my question is, should I really be getting G5 or do I deserve more?
Grade 5 for a masters + a few years ecperience seems low. I would think a grade 6 at least. I got out of manufacturing a long time ago but when I made the jump from there to tech marketing I went from hourly to grade 5 with a BS degree and zero tech marketing experience. I always tell folks that come to Intel to get the highest grade and pay you can squeeze out of them cause the annual increases are so lousy....
I expect grade 6 too. Any tips on negotiation?
You can always ask, but I don't think grade 5 is unreasonable for masters and 1-2 years exp. You don't say what your non-semiconductor experience is but if it isn't relevant and not in the US than you may not get much credit for it. A new grad masters will start at a 5. 2 to 3 years is a typical time to start looking for promo. So you would be on the early end of grade 6. Without an Intel track record or any significant accomplishment to point to I don't think they would want to start you at 6. Your best chance is the make a case based on accomplishments you have made at previous jobs.
Non-semiconductor experience was in Heavy Engineering business related to petrochemical industries.
Qazwas is right on in his evaluation. Grade 5 is the typical grade based on education and experience. From my experience as a tech in the fab many years ago, they will work you to the bone. You'll also be in the on call rotation.
grade ?
Grade offered is 5
