Just curious; what are the big differences in between Product Marketing vs Brand Marketing ?
🍿
Product marketing is usually about driving awareness of and adoption of a product launch. Brand marketing is more about crafting a reputation (favorable impression of the brand) and general brand awareness. This can often overlap with product design and content strategy, to make sure there is a consistent “voice” in the product.
So can we say brand marketing is more of a holistic approach than product marketing ?
They're totally different roles. Like not even comparable.
That’s why l am asking...
PMM here... PMM is more product and feature specific. The goal is the evangelize the product to further increase adoption of the product. Brand marketing is the company image (not product specific). Driving consumer interest and buy-in of the company. Using Facebook as an example: they would have a brand marketer that promotes how inclusive of a social network facebook is. How it connects and helps billions of people all over the world. Etc. Then there would be several PMMs for each individual product. So the PMM of stories will help position stories to increase adoption. Could literally be anything from having a say in where on the platform stories is placed. Could market the ease of use of stories and influence the order your friend’s stories appear. Etc. Hope that helped
Does a PMM have any growth skills? Ie AB testing landing pages, creating Emails, growth loops? Or are they more a marketer telling a story and creating content about a product?
Some PMMs also do growth marketing, but most companies hire growth marketers who specialize in email, push, paid ads, landing page optimization / funnel optimization projects.
What do you think the big differences are? You’re in marketing so you should have an informed opinion on this. Then we’ll opine.
