I just found out through a source that my colleague is making 28k more in base salary than me. She has more experience than I do but then why isn’t her seniority higher then? We’re both at P4 Senior UX Designers. Is this normal? #salarycomparison #productdesign #salary #uxdesigner
Sounds like a normal range, she may be top of the comp band for the level and you may be mid-low end of the band. Mostly depends on interview performance and competing offers. If you joined at very different points in time (several years apart), it could be due to annual raises, or different markets when joining. Why isn’t her seniority higher? Well, because it’s hard to get promoted.
+1 In the senior L5 range, comp bands can range from 100-200k in difference. Someone with more experience can have more impact, and even people at the same level have varying levels of performance, making everyone valued differently. Comparison is the thief of joy. Don’t focus on what others make but rather what you can control, such as improving yourself.
Very normal. Bands can range by 50+, it depends on if you negotiate and how you perform in interviews as well.
Follow up, the only company that I know of giving standard offers without the need to negotiate is Coinbase.
Normal get over it
Did they join later than you? The market outpaces raises, which is why most people recommend switching jobs.
Are you a dude? If you are it's because of sexism.
