I’ve an on-site interview coming soon. Folks working at Tableau - can you give an overview of PM interview process? What to expect?
Assuming you’re interviewing for a PM role with a product area (not portfolio) in dev that is responsible to deliver new products (as opposed to processes), you can expect: * Strategy: what to invest in and why that’s the best way to help customers and grow the business * Research: figuring out what customers need and why, and teaching that to the team * Design: working with a team to develop solutions that clearly meet the needs of a customer * Teamwork and Leadership: working effectively with others to achieve common goals, dealing with conflict We ask about concrete examples of cases you have dealt with ideas above. We build great products and look for candidates who have tried them and have an opinion to share. We work in an inclusive and collaborative way in the interview to solve problems and discuss challenges. We are not combative or competitive, we don’t ask logic puzzles or coding questions, there are no ‘right’ answers. Interviewers want to get a sense of experience you have and systems you use to approach problems.
Thanks for this great answer. It’s super helpful. What kind of technical questions should a Product PM expect? For Strategy - are you typically looking for general guiding principles/frameworks that the PM relies on, examples from the candidates past, or suggestions about where Tableau should go next? Thanks again for any additional insights you can share.
@fbCz83 Thanks for a descriptive answer. Appreciate it.👍
