I am a senior product manager in Cisco (grade level 12) There are four grade levels for product manager (grade level 9 - 12| 13 is a director) I have seen many Cisco people put different product manager title even though that is not their official title. I put mine as senior product manager because it is the official title although I am grade 12 which is equivalent to group product manager outside. Should I change my title on LinkedIn? (I got promotion faster than usual pace. 3 promotions in 3 years joining after MBA. Usually it takes 2-3 years for a promotion) 1) Cisco don't have title per grade level like other companies. (Product manager->Senior product manager->Product line manager->Group product manager) 2) From Cisco directory, it is hard to tell which level the person is unless you manage that person.
A group product manager generally leads a group of PMs working on a product area. Is that what you do? If so go for it
How'd you get promoted so fast???
Probably pizzaparty is in insbu. Not sure if product manager is same as technical or engineering manager.
Do you have direct reports? Do you informally lead other PMs? I think some companies say Lead PM instead of Group PM, which sounds like it works better for something that isn't technically true.
Thank you all for the advice. I will change my title on linkedin when I look for new opportunities. I do not want to disclose which BU I work for or how many direct reports I have.
