I’ve been looking for a full-time role in San Francisco for over 16 months. I’m a contractor right now (it was all i could get when i relocated here early last year). I’ve had 12 final round onsites in that time (ranging from startups to FAANG companies alike), and have literally had the best interviews of my life only to find out that budgets got rescinded or they changed the role to Principal/Staff designer, get totally ghosted by recruiters, just simply turned down, etc etc. It’s been pretty belittling and defeating, but im still chugging along. I have a background in graphic design/animation and a masters degree in Human Computer Interaction, and 5-7 yoe in UX/visual design overall. I’m looking for mid-senior level roles, open to anything, but have a soft spot for gaming/entertainment industries. Would anyone be willing to refer me to any open roles they might have?
Definitely get feedback or try doing a mock final round interview with an experienced coach for more objective / real time feedback.
Any tips for getting feedback? Recruiter vs people who interviewed you? No one ever gives me data
What kind of feedback are you looking for? For online portfolio or the presentation?
Moved to SF 3 weeks ago for the same , I can understand your pain
Hang in there! There’s a light at the end of the tunnel for both of us somewhere.
IDK 😓 I am international student (on visa). Can we connect through LinkedIn or something ,I can of course learn something from you
It is harder now. Lots of jobs but Uber just fired a ton......design is treated like shit in tech
Same in Microsoft? How’s designer treated there?
We might be recruiting. Feel free to DM me if you're interested!
Can I dm too?
PM me your portfolio
Want to see the quality of work first
Do you have examples of what's the expected quality for L4 or L5?
I might have something for you with Crunchyroll/Ellation if interested
Yes I can refer you
Not to be rude, but Wells Fargo is not top tier - they have a reputation of killing the dreams of contract talent. And your post doesn't have a portfolio link.
Post your portfolio or DM me.

Oh, how could it be so difficult to get a FT ux job... Have you tried to ask for meaningful feedback from the interviewers? 12 onsite should give you enough insights/lessons on where you can improve. Maybe it’s portfolio, or presentation?
Yeah, believe me when I say I’ve done just about everything. I’ve gone through 4 presentation formats, 3 portfolio sites, 4 resume designs, etc. Literally hundreds of dry applications later, not too much farther than when I started. I’m generally a very well spoken person and I know my shit during interviews, it just seems like I’ve been struck by a string of bad luck over the last year. Feedback has ranged from “you were SO close but other candidate was more local” to “everyone loved you but we’re looking for someone with more experience (for a mid level role asking for 2 yoe)”. it’s been quite a ride overall.
It's a lot harder to get into the city on design. Than it used to be. ***stuck in Seattle
