I currently work at Amazon as an L4. Got hit up by a recruiter for a production engineer role at FB since I have prior experience doing Linux development as an embedded developer. My current team wlb is really good and I'll probably be promoted in Q2, but I don't particular like the work we're doing and it doesn't fit my skill set particularly well. Does anyone have any insight into what the production engineer role entails?
On a similar vein, i am a software developer here at qcom. But google recruiter hit me up with a SETI role? Can i ask the recruiter than i want to be interviewed for a product team, or is that supposed to be done during your host matching?
FB PEs know their stuff and depending on which product area you are supporting, will definitely get more exposure on the particular stack (ie. Data infra PE vs Instagram PE vs WhatsApp PE). The internal tools they develop are wholly within the SWE scope.
PE and SWE at Facebook are paid the same (I realize this isn't the question that was asked though) The focus is just different, so don't let people scare you away. Some SWEs wouldn't pass PE interviews and the other way around too. One isn't better than the other. Choose what suits you best.
That's why I agreed to interview. It seemed that way to me at first glance and I think it aligns with my skill set much better than a pure SDE role.
Can you tell me what’s asked in the interview ?
Did you joined?
Nah I got ghosted. I keep getting recruiters reach out about it though but this time I'm ghosting them lol. Don't want facebook on my resume tbh.
Interesting. May I ask, why?
Even Facebook has System PE and Software PE like google system SRE/SWE- SRE?

Production engineer means SRE. Don’t interview if you’re currently an SDE.
True, Also interview will be easy. Again getting back into SDE will be difficult.
But it’s Facebook!!!! LoL
