Please share your experiences when it comes working with Amazon. Focussing on: - recent changes being adapted or brought into the system - whats motivating you to stay in the company - work culture/environment - how does Manager-reportee relationship work - work life balance - comp n benefits
I hate how the bar to get to SDE 2/3 has been lowered by recruiters and SDMs. I like how there are programs like the infosec review, API review, principle review to keep havoc from the LEs under check. Opportunity for great customer impact motivates me to stay. Work culture is aggressive in general - it turns you into a shark in a few years. As long as your heart's in the right place, obsessed about customers, I don't mind it. Manager-reportee relationship is highly dependent on the competency of the manager in question. For the last 2 years, I just switch off at 5 pm, no matter what, except for maybe 15% of work days. Compensation is pretty decent by local standards, could be higher, but in absolute terms definitely very good. I don't care about freebies much.
Thank you. It helped. - Any restrictions on doing WFH? - Flexible work hours? heard that Amazon keep a track of swipe time. True? - do you feel the autonomy in decision making, adopting, proposing tech or see that its US driven? - did you change your team 2 yrs ago? - what environment do you see around there? Nearby, co-located teams? I came for discussions and noticed every workarea being sealed through glasses.
- no restrictions in most teams - flexible work hours yes for corporate. Not sure about warehouses. - there is autonomy in driving projects, but there are stakeholders to convince for big decisions - yes - most buildings have open floor plans. Teams try to help each other if there is a shared goal, otherwise everyone is pretty busy with their own stuff.
