What kind of opportunities do they have at FB, Google, Apple, etc. etc. for non-technical roles like project managers?
Makes sense and good Feedback. I've burnt out from my job which is a mix of project management, PM work and data analyst and begining to weigh options. The only thing is: I hear in this market corporate positions are undervalued generally as compared to the "sexiness" of startups.
start-ups are a bitch and they definitely take a special kind of person. They can be incredibly rewarding if all goes well and everyone pulls their weight. That can be rare though. As a PM you can influence that. I have done both and have done them for two major players. You have to live to thrive in chaos.
Non technical pjms are usually the first to go with any downsizing.
It's much more fulfilling to work at a smaller company or a startup. Don't let the hype fool you. You are more disposable at the big guys.
