Hi All! Was wondering if anyone can shed more light on when promotions happen at Goldman Sachs and how many times a year does it happen. I know January is when most promotions happen. However, I have seen people get promoted in the summer. Just wondering how does that happen and if it is safe to say that promotions happen twice a year.
Promotions only happen once a year. Even if you're exceptional. That person could have just updated long after he got promoted. There are people who are no longer in GS (originally from my team) who still show as currently working there on LinkedIn. Some haven't updated in many months /years. Don't go based of updates on LinkedIn.
There are a few divisions where mid-year promotions are common. Although I think they no longer have it this year onwards.
I have heard securities division has twice a year promotion cycle, not sure if it’s for all positions
In Securities, I've seen promotions happening in 2 cycles. It is location based though. In Nyc, promotions happen in summer as well. In fact, if you use slang, there's a script which can tell you, who all got promoted, within the input time period
Can you dm me the script name?
There's people who get off cycle promotions but it's very rare (I've seen it happen to 2 guys, analyst going to associate in London). If someone high up can be convinced you can make it happen.
"program" analysts/associates get promoted in the summer. I'm not sure if anyone still does that with tech now in rev divisions. used to be secdiv/imd/IBD where you either get promoted or fired within 3y
All promotions happen in January. There is no way around it.
But then i don’t understand how some people get promoted in the summer. Or is it that they get it announced privately in the summer and then it actualizes in January? For example, on LinkedIn someone will put that they got promoted from analyst to associate on July. That confuses me because i dont know if that means it was announced to them privately in the summer or something else
