Has anyone gotten a level change (L5 to L6) while changing team at Amazon?
It says you work at AMEX...
I've been at Amazon for a while now
General rule is you need to be with current manager for 18 months unless your manager gets you an exception, which generally means finding your managers for the last 3 years or so who will support your promotion and also a great promo doc and a TT rating and probably you should learn to dance.
That’s BS.
It’s on point though. I have had 4 managers now and transferred twice. Every time my manager wanted to promote me, it didn’t go through because he didn’t put the time in. 18 months is the time it takes for you to build the trust, show you can operate at the next level, and give the manager time to do the document. With the manager driven process this is less about Policy and more about practicality.
Don’t fancy any chances of being promoted during your move or for the the first year after you moved.
This is called an off cycle promotion. There is a process for it, but is nearly impossible to achieve in practice. Supposedly this used to happen in some orgs, but I haven't seen it happen ever in my org.
Possible, but very hard. Usually needs vp approval
