Since amazon has a salary cap and refreshers vest after two years if you are promoted/receive a sizable target TC bump, will you not realize this change in TC for 2 years or do they provide some sort of gap coverage similar to how they handle initial sign on bonuses?
Ratios are about the same, but increased slightly last year when the simplified promo process was rolled out. We’ve seen a few SDE3 promos in under 3 years for special cases, but those are flagged and heavily scrutinized. Average is close to 4 years. I’ve never seen it done in under 2.5 years.
Hey @amazons - what's this (wonderful) simplified promo process you speak of?! And does is also hold true for SDM promos too?
It’s just the current process. Believe it or not the documentation used to be more thorough, more feedback providers, and longer approval chains. Now skip level can approve and only L7+ promo docs are read in most TRs.
You basically have to work at next level for a year without pay increase to be promoted, and then when you get promoted, you get compensated for it a year later lol

Worried that our top performer is an attrition risk. How do managers handle this?
What’s the level distribution like these days there? 4 years ago, 10% of the population was senior or higher. Has the senior population grown at AMZN or is the promo from SDE2 to Senior still hard to come by?
People are getting there in 2-3 years now. Principal is still hard.
