A month back I posted that Uber is ramping up hiring in India and another round of layoff is coming. Uber community down voted it saying, all is good, and post was taken down.

Well, here it is. Being vindicated for 50%. No comments for another 50%

Obviously, what do you expect when a 12 year old chintu is building an app.

Actually anyone can build an app now. It is crazy easy to build a app. Getting users is the challenge than building an app

Why are you building all these frameworks and high level abstractions for high TC? Because these companies know you will be gone in 5 years and replaced with college kids who are cheaper and know the frameworks.

Uber is nothing but a non-profitable taxi company with an app, one that’s lost most of its business since the pandemic.

No reason to have good engineers. Just need to minimize costs and outsource to cheap labor.

Yes its cheap when compared to usd they pay here but its good tc in india and for that they would get good engineers, cheap labor does not equate to not good engineers.

Correction: they pay among the highest TC in India. More than Microsoft, Google, Amazon etc in India. Only Google India comes close enough.

    • You think Nokia went under due to cheap manufacturing cost? Not because of business and design decisions?
      Oct 16, 2020
    • Nokia went out of business because they were not allowed to move to Android. Microsoft barred them from doing that. It was nothing to do with moving production to different countries but comparing Uber with nokia is comparing apple with oranges. Jobs will get outsourced nothing to stop that.

    OP
12 yr old chintu did not make the app first.. saying that the 12 yr old chintu can copy cat, and is therefore can replace the originals, is foolish
