There must be a per-country cap on H1Bs with the goal of diversifying US immigration just like there is a per-country cap for green cards. Multiculturalism is one of the most important America values but this is not shown by the H1B skilled worker immigration process. Recently 75% of H1B visas went to India due to Indians sending out applications on mass with the help of WITCH consultancy companies and gaming the entire H1B lottery process. America is being played like a violin and the diversity of American society is suffering for it. America need skilled immigrants from all nations not just from 1 nation. Skilled immigrants from other nations that provide invaluable alternative perspectives are being denied their ability to show their talent. Lets discuss here the possible ways we can change the H1B process to improve it for the better and let all nations have a fair shot!

EDIT:

It looks like there is enough support that this could very well be a possibility. The only people against this seem to be Indians who can't vote and are only against it for selfish reasons. The future president Biden is very much in favor of diversity and will be looking for ways to improve the US immigration system. Call your democratic congressman and tell them that you wish green-card style per country cap to be included in the H1B lottery! Emphasize how important diversity is to you!

H1b cannot diversify US immigration as it’s a non immigrant visa and workers are temporary. Also US issues 1M green card every year and less than 1% of that goes to India, majority goes to Mexico, China and Guatemala.

While WITCH is a scam, not every employee is a fraud or incompetent. So the talented ones will find legit companies willing to sponsor and the shitty ones will be out of luck. Sounds like a win

I like diversity as much as anyone else but these kinds of artificial barriers are a terrible idea. Companies would then have to discriminate based on applicants country of citizenship which I think is wrong ethically. Also, it makes no sense for every country to get an equivalent amount of H1bs when most of the prospective workers are from a much smaller set of countries. Both supply and demand for tech workers are mostly from a few countries. You can see that in US college programs too.

    • “At the expense of America”? What does that even mean?

I’m giving your argument the benefit of doubt here, but I’m fundamentally opposed to racial or ethnic quotas and that’s essentially your proposal. At the same time, I do recognize the benefits of diversity and argue for factoring that in. But basing the whole system at its core on race or ethnic origin is not only morally questionable (in my view), but also most likely unconstitutional and illegal.

As an aside, I do believe this country needs more intellectual diversity. Immutable characteristics should be irrelevant in judging your value to society.

    • That would be the steps to include people from different countries, not increase diversity. A country has its reason to make it discriminatory, but the process to increase diversity is a straight-out lie.

Everyone is seeking advantage to gain the benefits. The flip side of your argument will be "Steps to increase diversity are only advantageous to those who are seeking to have benefits by pretending to make 'un-diverse' America more diverse".
