Got an offer from Pure Storage. But recruiter is asking for my expectation without telling what they can offer. 7 yoe and 3 years relevant experience. Any suggestions ? #compensation
Saying 'let's talk about the numbers you have, I will let you know if it doesn't match my current band'' is perfectly acceptable...if the recruiter balks at that or acts as if u personally offended, do share their contact info in a DM, I will escalate it internally
I already had a conversation once where I tried to deflect for reasons known, but recruiter insisted that I give the number first. I had to give it in the next call. I gave something which is quite close to what I mentioned. Just wanted to checkout what others think as an afterthought.
Always make the first offer on expectations. Give the top of the band or may be close to it.
From what I have heard expect 275K TC. 450K comment from FB guy is most likely a joke. Even 350K seems unlikely since this is not FAANG.
Agree with you. 350 is expectional case even with FAANG too for E4. A lot depends on level as if it's E5 then it's median. But that's a good to give as an ceil for level 4.
Negotiation is all about leverage. Tell him to give the offer as they have interviewed and accessed you so they know the best where you fit in their pay band and you don't want to make educated guess rather believe in them. If he insists still tell him jokingly would take a mil. π Or you can give the top of the band for your level.
