I do recruiting for my company, and felt the bias towards hiring diversity candidates. We were "hinted" that we should strive to hire diversity candidates, but i never thought this would mean lowering the bar. All my advances to go out of the comfort zone of the candidates were cut-short. Hell, i was not even allowed to followup on the things candidates just mentioned, which i know were not true. Obvious, bugs in the code were overlooked, just to hire the diversity candidate. This is not the hill, i want to die on, and its not my money, but I have lost all respect for my company, i am all for diversity but lowering the bar is not the way to do it. I would rather leave than work alongside the people, i have been "suggested" to hire. Does other company do the same? Have other interviewers seen this happen?
I don’t think doing well in interviews is related to doing well on the job...like who does leetcode mediums as a critical part of their work?? Lol.
“ML” at google is basically “moving protos around. U rly don’t need some crazy tree algos lmao
Doing well in interviews tends to weed out false positives. If you can’t handle studying LC medium question, how can you possibly study the technical architecture and demands of a SWE job? I’ve also had diversity candidates bomb simple SQL interviews. They still get hired. Why? Because muh diversity numbers.
Move out. It might not even be company wide but team specific I have never expected this!
I don't see it at my current company but at my previous one it was very prevalent. They would hire people who could barely code and that really frustrated me. It was definitely part of the reason I left.
Why the tagged companies?
Just want to see, what's happening at other big/famous companies
Why should we believe your story?
Because it’s an industry wide problem lmao
How about unconcious bias towards women in tech? There is always two sides to a story Also, its not Industry wide. Most good companies don't hire based only on diversity. Diversity can get you a interview call but not the job. Same interview standards
You are BS. No one asked you to lower the bar. It is hard to find any qualified engineer to hire. It is even harder to find diversity hire. Deep down you may have prejudice. You interviewed few diversity hires and found that they are not qualified. This can happen with non diversity hires too.
I’ve had a hiring manager at Apple tell me verbatim to overlook a candidates failure to answer certain technical questions because she checked off some diversity boxes.
I dont really see the need for foul language, but okay. i know what was told, i agree it is hard to find diversity candidate, but that doesn't mean you lower the bar
Obligatory proof or GTFO
I've an interview coming up, you're making me feel uncertain now

Worried that our top performer is an attrition risk. How do managers handle this?
Yes. It happens at Apple, and it’s happened at Amazon where I was before. It’s unfortunate because the team ends up suffering b/c they have to pick up the slack. Oh well, at least our diversity numbers improved right?
Its so outrageous, i so wanted to override the decision, but like i said not my money and this is not the hill, i want to die on
