Ever been upleveled drastically going to a lower tier company?

Just curious if anyone here has gone from a senior engineer or EM at a higher tier tech company to a higher leveled IC or management (architect/director/VP/executive) by jumping to a much lower tier company. What was your experience? What was the TC like? Did you feel like you were prepared?

If you are significantly upleveled, that should be a red flag for you and you should reconsider. also consider what the levels mean, a staff at google is not equivalent to staff elsewhere. some companies have a lot of levels some very few. the TC should be your measuring stick because at the end of the day it doesn’t matter what your title says, it matters what your accounts say.

moved from a top company to a much smaller company, level up, over 2x TC @ 1m for the past few days praying i vest before the party is over πŸ˜‚

Would prefer not to reveal companies as that would very likely reveal my identity. Previous Google L6 equivalent @ upper 400s

My boss at a previous company was cto and clearly unfit for the job. Think he’d been a regular underling at his previous gig
