I know this topic has been touched in the past but I'd like to know the current trend. I'm a software developer and I give my coding interviews in c++. Recently I've been contemplating to switch to python bcoz of the terse code we can write and save time during interviews. Are major companies in the Bay Area ok with Python for a software developer role? Enlighten me đ
Yes, and clarity of English communication is far more important than choice of programming language.
I recently did all my tech interviews in C++ and I did fine. I got 5 offers.
Don't use python, it's a sign of weakness
Most donât care what language you use. Although Iâd go with C# for terseness from C++, not Python.
Why not Python?
Well first, the transition from C++ would be easier â youâre just going for a more highly-abstracted statically typed language with very similar concepts and syntax. If you simply learn Python syntax but maintain your way of thinking from C++, youâll end up writing code that Python purists will say is not âpythonicâ. That permissive âweâre all consenting adultsâ philosophy, by the way, is the reason I personally donât like Python.
