Why do people put "incoming" in front of their LinkedIn title before even joining the company?

Few examples I saw:

"Incoming summer analyst at Goldman Sachs"
"Incoming risk assurance associate at PwC"

Is this the way to do it? What is the motive?

Weird indeed, I don't really see this going on in industries outside of finance/engineering.

@sudbduks- Lol, I've seen people putting "Incoming SDE1 at Amazon". I bet this is just an immature idea college students and grads have, just to flex in front of their mates.

I’d say it makes sense for incoming interns, in case it catches a recruiter’s eyes for future internship/full time opportunities. The only case I can think of for incoming full time employees would be... networking? Otherwise it’s really just to flex.

Well I did it to flex. But that was many moons ago and I see the errors of my ways. But there are plenty of other things I regret more from my undergrad days, and none of them are my career choices lol

A lot of students are trying multiple offers, so sometimes it gives you an advantage when trying to reach a recruiter.
"Incoming X @ Y" basically is equivalent of "I was able to do well in interviews at Y"

Says a little bit towards your skill
