what is the difference in terms of interview process, work, TC, etc. Thanks for your time
SDET and SDEs are in the same payband. The hiring coding bar is the same. QAEs also code but lighter projects and do manual testing. QAEs TC is about 20-30% less.
This post is correct, but I want to emphasize the amount of manual testing some QAEs do. I have worked with QAEs whose entire job was manually pressing buttons on an app to find bugs. It seemed like a terrible gig. SDETs solve really hard engineering problems and add tons of value by preventing service outages.
Could you please tell, what is approx TC for QA. around 10 yrs exp, my current TC is ~160k
Pretty much around same or lower depending on lvl 5 or 6. With l6, you might be reaching towards 200K ish.
There is a similarity, both have poor career growth and job security..
Why does SDET has a poor job security?
Only legacy companies now have this position, and even they are cutting down, Developers writing tests is a much better model
Very risky for future
SDET’s almost exactly similar to SDE’s in their day to day work except that they work with the testing frameworks. They write the integration test, develop frameworks etc. QA is hands on with testing end to end and raising bugs and working on releases. Sometimes QAs also code to write automate tests etc but not very frequent.
What are you referring to? theory or practice? In my opinion, there is very little in common between sde and sdets in practice. Sde codes, and sdets are supposed to code while also doing every other thing no one wants to do.
