I have a bad habit of getting really excited about a project, start it, then after a day or two just... let it sit in my Github repo (on Private of course). I don't really have much motivation to code outside of work, but feel like I should create something for more experience / make some side money.

How do y'all inspire yourself to code outside of work? Or do you not code at all outside of work?

I don’t even have motivation to work on work projects, outside, don’t even think about it

I used to volunteer at a university or research hospitals who may need coding, before moving to meta and got some coauthored publications.

Since the beginning of the pandemic I work for a nonprofit to collect funds to support education for underprivileged kids in my home country and mentor them.

  • It's not going to be about finding motivation or inspiration. If you want to make serious progress it's going to be about establishing a routine. There's always going to be non-fun parts of projects, and those kill you off if you rely only on motivation. Build a routine of a normal time you work on it. It's the only way.

Also, it helps if you can use it as your go-to procrastination project. Like, you don't want to deal with an actual responsibility, so you work on this instead πŸ˜‹
