Failed every interview in the past 4 months
I’ll be honest, I didn’t spend months prepping or thousands of dollars for prep materials. I did spend 4 weeks prepping for Google, which had the strongest results out of all.
1. Meta: failed the execution phone screen
2. Pinterest: not sure - thought interview went well, but didn’t pass the design/execution phone screen
3. Google: bombed the sys design round. Redo was offered but recruiter ghosted me TWICE.
4. Amazon: recruiter begged me to interview and then ghosted me. Counting my blessings.
5. Uber: didn’t pass hiring manager screen due to experience even though we had a good convo.
6. Stripe: did well on execution and design, but they felt I was too junior for the open role
7. Discord: didn’t pass recruiter screen due to mismatch in experience.
So what now? I’m thinking I’m going to try looking internally at M to align to consumer experience so I can learn more on the job, and take my time prepping for a jump in a year or two. Since I’ve always been in enterprise, I felt this was my pit fall in the standard PM interviews that are very much consumer focused.
On a side note, here’s my stack rank of the overall interview experience and rating of recruiters:
1. Meta: recruiter was solid, hiring tools were solid, just all around awesome.
2. Stripe: honestly same as meta.
3. Uber: fast turn around and good prep materials.
4. Discord: slow turn around but good experience either way.
5. Pinterest: good experience but no feedback and rejection came from a diff recruiter so kinda confusing.
6. Google: ghosted me after offering redo for 4 months, reached out to schedule, and then ghosted me again. Shit experience.
7. Amazon: recruiter begs for interview, then ghosts me. Another recruiter schedules call and then calls at wrong time. Then ghosts me. 😂
