Has anybody worked there before? If so, can you share some insight on the work environment there? I am curious about the usual stuff: types of projects/interesting projects, tech stack(s) used, compensation, benefits, work culture (e.g. allow WFH), promotion process, etc.
Thanks!

Don't compare the UI to a smartphone, remember what phones looked like in 2005? Right, 256 color LCD w JavaME, it was also the year the idrive was initially designed for the E92.
Whether you think it looks dated is somewhat irrelevant, the 8 year old idrive in your E92 looks/works better and has more features than what most other brands offer in new cars. BMW was the innovator in 2001 and have been best in class with every idrive update.
If it wasn't for tech companies like apple, google and I guess Tesla, there wasn't really any alternative for the idrive. MB and Audi try to clone BMW so theirs is very similar, but always (at least used to be) one step behind.
The embedded hard/software (supposedly QNX RTOS) in a car has to work all the time, for hours, without hiccups in the harshest weather conditions and be supported for 12 years, unlike the cloud/saas which you can deploy many times a day. Even my stupid Android tablet tells me to reboot every other day...
I'd give these guys some credit ;)
