After reading all the blind comments, I'm having so much concerns about joining Amazon. I'm done with the onsite loop, and got good feed back from recruiter, basically waiting for offer now. But current job at twilio is like a dead-end, good wlb though, but no growth and nothing new to learn. What should I do?!

I failed facebook, no hope for google. I just want to join Fang for my resume, but seems like only Amazon want me.

    • There’s more out there than FAANG. Twilio is already going to be good on a resume. You could always wait a bit to try FB again. Or just look for another well regarded company outside of fang.

Or just give Amazon a shot. Lots of people find good teams over there

Amazon has a lot of employees the chances of you seeing terrible experiences are that much higher. Have you talked to your HM, the team? There are good teams and ppl at Amazon

In terms of tenure, 1.5 and 1.8 are night and day right? lol

Also, what are your sources on tech tenure in those companies?

As per linkedin MS is 4.2 years, Twitter is 2.3 years, Snap is 2.3 years, Uber is 2.8 years, Airbnb is 3.3 years.

Other the other hand AWS is 1.6 years, and Amazon is at a pathetic 1.3 years.

For these numbers you can search for the company on linkedin, go to the company overview page, these numbers are listed towards the bottom of the page.

      What are you sources?

People who say nothing new to learn IMO are usually the issue. You need to navigate and carve out your own space. To me as a hiring manager, that means one is not being proactive

Yes you can carve out your own space, but how much good does that do when you're on an island? You could get stuck in a continuous feedback loop where you may think you're implementing good processes or best practices, but maybe it's very different from a real-world structure. This can also be dependent on company structure. Maybe someone's workload is a very specific vertical only allowing time for extracurricular innovation. Some companies may also instinctually look to outsource this innovation with other companies without even considering if they should develop internal talent that may be eager for the new opportunity.

  • Don’t trust everything on blind. If Amazon is really ‘that’ bad I doubt even half the engineers who work there today would actually work there. It’s a great place to learn. The scale of the problems you face is unmatched. AWS is the best in the business. As an engineer you learn a lot at Amazon than most of the other companies since they expect you to wear many hats. Some teams, some managers might be bad, but this is true everywhere. If you like the team and the product, just take the offer and join Amazon.

True, the chaos at Amazon is an opportunity for engineers who want to learn
