Not a whole lotta culture there if that's important to you though. There's House of Blues in Anaheim and a couple of smaller clubs as well as FivePoint Amphitheater for live music though. And you can always make the drive up to L.A. for all sorts of music/art/culture.
As for cuisine? They have Dave and Busters at Irvine Spectrum (mall) - what else do you need? /s
Seriously, I wouldn't worry about food - I've found plenty of good food in the OC, but you have to be willing to drive. I've actually had very good Indian and sushi and Korean BBQ in Irvine (a past employer's office was in Irvine and I drove down from West L.A. for team meetings once a month). There's also good upscale dining in various parts of OC, esp. in the coastal areas like Newport Beach (esp. on Balboa island - there's an awesome French restaurant my wife and I love). You won't starve. Let's leave it at that.
Don't expect cheap housing -- if you're already a home owner in metro Boston, really seriously ask if you're willing to uproot yourself to end up paying a shit-ton more for housing.
