Rejected after full interview round, then failed a different online assesment

Jan 26 8 Comments

I felt like my interview went really well. Answered all technical problems and vibed well with the interviewers.

The assesment was timed and I approached with a poor solution for a long while before having a duh moment, then I explained how I should have solved the problem in the comments (all I had time for at that point)

I'm in talks with recruiters at ~5 companies looking to set up interviews and of some OAs.

I'm currently ramping up my studies again and doing leetcode after this happened... I have leetcode premium and am going to practice interview with an experienced mentor I have.

Any other resources/ strategies/ things I'm missing?

What would you do here?

Ps. I hate hackerrank

Thanks for reading

  • Happened with me recently with Shopify. Had a problem where JS was coercing negative members to false. Quickly debugged and found the error, went on to explain things. The interviewer mention he sees that I think a lot about writing highly scalable code, this is what I read they wanted. He was nice and gave great feedback overall. Still rejected.

Only thing I thought could have been the issue was I named a variable wrongly. And when i wanted to reuse the code it threw me off and he pointed it out. I was like "oh I'm stupid", he said that's fine it's just pressure. Maybe that contradicts company culture, πŸ€”

It feels like every single person on here forgets that there's dozens of other candidates interviewing too. It doesn't always have to be a mistake made to not advance... It could just be that someone else in the loop was way more experienced or likeable or knew the VPs kid.

    • Lols...knowing the VPs kid. That's true anyways, having being on the other side of hiring. Some people already made up their mind on who to hire doesn't matter what others do. This happened in my previous role. The team lead had his mind set on certain candidates, funny thing is they usually rejected our offers. At least 3 of them I waw aware of

Everyone has faced rejection, just keep putting in the work. Your goal is to keep your mind as sharp as possible to solve leetcode problems. Don't tunnel vision too much on just memorizing problems, train your mind on patterns and maximize your body's ability to think critically by eating healthy and exercising.
