My wife is fighting cancer starting from January. I used my FMLA leave to support her. It was not long enough, unfortunately, and I needed a little bit more time. However, Atlassian didn't support me. They cultivate fake caring company culture, but in reality I was able to get only 10 days of PTO for one and half years. This happened while my manager took one month of vacation before leaving the company. I got terminated today because I wasn't able to deliver enough points. It's true, and my performance was up and down - we just got released from hospital and my wife was barely moving. We're on the way to the second surgery (hopefully, last one). We did all the chemo, and radiation, and stuff. Atlassian introduced 6-week performance improvement plan, but fired me 2 weeks into that, saying that they "don't believe anything is gonna change". I thought you might want to avoid this company. They lie, they do not support people, founders are liers. I put a website www.shitlassian.com where I share more information, I though Blind community will appreciate that. Thanks! #shitlassian #atlassian
What cancer is it ? Sorry to hear about your situation. More strength to you and your wife. May God help her recover soon .
Really sorry to hear this. I know this makes a terrible situation worse.
Wow I'm sorry you had to go through this. Stay strong and take care of your family. You seem to be a strong engineer, I have no doubt you'll get another better job soon.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Hope your wife will recovery soon and things will get back on track! God bless you!
Sorry to hear this man. Keep hearing great things about their culture - but at the end of the day, I feel most companies do not truly care for their employees. I wish you and your wife a happy outcome after having gone through all this. I hope she recovers quickly and fully. And I’ll say a prayer for her. Family comes first. And you’ll find a better job soon. Take care man.
Like all companies culture is team dependent . Most are good but some teams/managers are fucking terrible
I’m sorry this happened to you. Companies don’t care about you. My wife is going through severe depression and unfortunately she’s probably going to be laid off as well because she took time off for mental health (at a different company). Unlimited PTO is a scam. Her mental state is because of the company. Everyone in the company keeps repeating all the benefits the company provides and that they care and blah blah blah. The reality is the minute you start seeking help, they start making plans to replace you.
What company she is working for ? Sorry to hear
I am very sorry you both have to go through this. My mom fought with ovarian cancer and I can understand how difficult all this is for you both. I sincerely hope your wife feels better soon and you get another job. Let me know if you need a referral at Google.
Yep- it’s all a scam. End of the day it’s all a fight for survival. Hope your wife recovers
Wish you and your wife the best! Legal course of action might be good, but considering what you are going through already, if you have the flexibility and opportunity to avoid the drama at the company, I'd say, focus on the recovery first. Then take up the battle if you are still pissed. Sometimes, life just sucks and we have to prioritize which suck needs attention. Hopefully the tides will turn soon! If you need any help with referrals at other companies bigger and better than Atlassian, please DM me.

Worth talking to lawyers. It might not be a home run but it might still be worth it for the company to throw a decent amount of money to avoid bad publicity. I know it's not going to be at the top of your mind, but it's absolutely worth making them pay. Also hope your wife feels better soon.
