How is the work culture of DE-Shaw India considering it's an investment form when compared to other MNCs like Google, Amazon, Microsoft, etc which work in core tech?

P.S.: I am a fresher and have a job offer from one good MNC (not FAANG). Compensation is a little higher than DE-Shaw. Please help me choose.

TC and work culture apart, pls join an actual tech company. Additionally, my friends there are absolutely dissatisfied. The only possible plus point at Shaw is TC, but that can also be matched easily at many tech companies.

    • I agree with the post but Salesforce, Microsoft and even in some cases Google, have boring/'not-so-techy' projects. I have friends at Salesforce, Microsoft and Google and all of them gave poor feedback on work. Only uber and Amazon folks seem to have some good work.

It's more about an org in a company and not about a whole company I guess. I can say it by confidence that few teams handling distributed trading systems in Shaw are much better at work than average Google, Salesforce teams

In "bigtech" companies it's common to have boring projects, that are mostly repetitive work. But that in no way makes it comparable to Shaw. Uber and Amazon don't have good work, they have more work. Current generation thinks more work is good work but that's a different topic to discuss.

Sure Shaw can have good problems to solve too, but it will never be engineering first. Decisions will be driven by the finance teams and not the engineering teams. Engineering practices will most certainly not be practiced. Have some friends there.

Can confirm what nsarbx is saying, I myself joined Shaw as a new grad fresh out of college influenced by the TC and intern stipend(2 lpm) they were offering in my college. Liked the firm during intern , they gave excellent food and accomodation for the whole intern in hyderabad with some apple gadgets which were enough for a 21 year old me to get flabbergasted. Rejoined next year after getting a ppo as full time and realised how big a fuck up that was to rejoin shaw . I was given maintenance work with shit old tech stack . Left in less than a year with almost the same TC but the work is way way better than what i used to do in shaw.
