Has anyone here been both a research quant in finance firm and a swe at FAANG? Which did you prefer? I feel like overall life could be better as a swe but intellectually and comp wise quant has an edge. Any perspective? I guess moving into high level IC or managment roles at FAANG could reach similar levels of comp?
Work/life balance bro. Pick software engineer. You will still get lots of $$
I know it’s bit annoying sometimes at my workplace to see people with similar background as mine (no phd) landing a quant role and making more money. But IMHO being a quant without a phd is almost like a dead end (unless you’re a rockstar). The quants without phd that i’ve seen havent been able to land a quant role at top funds / prop shops. Meanwhile many devs, who have left, have gone to citadel / two sigma / fb / g / etc, and now making more than those quants
