I graduated with my bachelors in mathematics a few months ago, and I have been working at a not very well known defense contractor as a software engineer for about 8 months now. I got an offer from Lockheed Martin to work as a software engineer, and I was wondering if Lockheed Martin is a good company to work for. My plan is to apply to graduate school for a part-time masters in computer science while I work at Lockheed Martin.

Will working at Lockheed Martin early in my career help me favorably in getting into good graduate schools and top companies like FAANG while still practicing Leetcode questions? I did some research online and Lockheed Martin seems to be a well-respected company, but I wanted to know what others think.

  • It is a decent early career option. Good WLB for you to have time to practice leet code. I know like 10 people personally who have worked at Lockheed for 2 years then went to Amazon, Google, Netflix, etc.

Yes, I know numerous people who are at Google who came from Lockheed and vice versa, Googlers who went to Lockheed.

My daughter, an aerospace engineer, had a great experience at Lockheed Martin. The company treated her well, she had a 4x10 schedule, and was paid decent wages by industry standards. She left four months ago to join an electric aero company for startup experience, but LM left the door open for her to return.

  • LM is great for WLB like people said. If you get into a program that works 4x10s and is flex, even better. Currently 2.5 yrs in and Iโ€™m ready to move on, so I am grinding leetcode in all of the spare time I have.

LM has also paid upwards of 10k for my MS CS so far, which is great. Keep in mind that youโ€™ll have to pay them back everything you were reimbursed in a sliding 1 year window.
