Recently interviewed with FB for M1, expecting an offer soon. Want to do some planning ahead of time but I have some questions. Appreciate if anyone who had similar experience to share your insight.
I know I can directly ask the recruiter but I'd rather hear what you guys have to say so I can be more prepared.
1. How long do I have to consider once I receive the offer? Do I have to make a decision very quickly or do I have months to consider? I did not interview for any specific team.
2. Is it possible to negotiate the start date to be around 2-4 months in the future? Or do I have to start very quickly?
3. How long does it take to do immigration paper work? I'm on H1B with approved I140, PD not current yet. In case my PD become current before I join, shall I hold on and not file for GC In case I have decided to join FB?
4. Does FB immigration work with my current immigration firm (Fragomen) or do I have to prepare everything? (Some of my paper is still with Fragomen, e.g. I only have digital copy of I140 approval on Fragomen website, never received physical copy)
Thank you all!!!

I appreciate that you want to do a smooth transition and want to give 1-2 months. But recall your company would term you tomorrow if they had to. And honestly, once you give notice, they can’t help but start to treat you differently. They won’t want your input on stuff. You also need to start empowering whoever is going to take over once you are gone. Unless there is a particular deadline that your leaving would disrupt, I’d suggest you say “I can do up to a month but would prefer 2 - 3 weeks”.
1) is hard and unrealistic. No one wants an offer extended and not be accepted for that long. Why would you not accept?
2) of course, not an issue. Say why / you want to help the current team transition and then you really need 3 weeks of break. Or whatever.
Is there a risk or downside to saying “yes” if you can postpone start date by 3-4 months?
Would you not take the job depending how your personal situation plays out?
2. Depends on the team’s requirement.
3. They’re quite efficient. You can also intentionally introduce delay here by going back and forth with the immigration team regarding the documents needed.
4. They’ll work with you.
I was more worried on the other end where I want to delay the start date so that there is enough time for FB to transfer my visa, then I will tell my boss to prepare for hand off (1-2 months), and then start at FB.
I still have a lot of love for my current team and I want to make sure to get enough time to prepare them. However, don't want to tell them anything before I can confirm immigration
