I have an offer from both Google (L5) and Palo Alto Networks. Offer from PAN is higher and I am curious to know perspective on PAN from someone who has worked at both the companies. I know Google is certainly better for engineering. But, my role is non-technical (e.g., strategy, marketing), so would appreciate response from any non-engineers here. TC: $270k YoE: 12
Take Google
For PAN, it depends on whoâs your manager and whatâs your department. The new building is almost done and we expect more and more employees coming from other FLANG companies to join us. You can easily tell the exponential growth by the speed of hiring and our stock price. Thatâs also why we can pay you more trying to get more talents. Like they always say: we donât sell ads
Whatâs FLANG?
FLANG = Facebook, LinkedIn, Amazon/Apple, Netflix, Google

Id go wherever the commute is better. San Jose is much cheaper than mountain view. Google wlb is possibly worse than pan too, but that depends on many factors.
Troll spotted
Lol đ. Commute man. Thatâs a serious issue but not at a worth of sacrificing your future.
Go to the role where there is more growth impact or can land you the next role that you want.
Free food at GOOGL - would go there
đ¤Śđźââď¸
Ya, you donât release value of free food till you donât have. Having to choose among worst food options in cafeteria and paying double for what it is worth. Then you realize how good free food was. Checking your bank account regretting to see you paid 300-350$ for shitty food for a month. Also, having a good cook as your partner always pays off too.
Ok even though I come from technical role at PANW. I would blindly go with GOOGLE. No second thoughts if I had GOOGLE offer. Having Google on your resume will only give you more growth opportunities as you will work with bunch of smart ppl. Non technical people mostly rely on connections to get jobs. Big companies better connections. Donât forget about googles free food, 401k 50% match.I have been with PANW for an year now and I am already looking out. I donât see growth for new comers. Unless you know the manager or director or VP already. I see close to no growth for the ppl who really cracked the interviews with no ones help. I would prefer any FAANG or FLANG companies over PANW any day. Good Luck. đ
See another similar post. Again, I will take google any day over PANW. I had 8 offers including amazon Facebook and fancy startups. Choosing PANW has been the worst decision Iâve ever made in my career. Extremely toxic culture. Constant hate on each other. Repetitive work. No visibility in to the teams work. Sub par engineers. Architects who donât know how to code. The list will never end. Trust me, you donât want to join PANW. Donât be fooled by the stock price or some BS new building. Yes we are hiring a lot....A lot of incompetent engineers who will ruin your life and your desire to work. If all of above are what you are looking for, sure, PANW will be the best company for you :)
Just curious, which team are you at? So much hate on your comments. My team is perfectly fine. I have never seen anyone leave since I joined. People are happy, wlb is great.
I too am curious, a lot of hate. Though each team is different and Iâm sorry youâre going through what youâre going through. As for OP, so thereâs no denying PAN pays really well, but if youâre concerned about âprestigeâ, well itâs not a household name, but who are you trying to impress? Itâs the biggest company in the cybersecurity space with a lot of room to grow. Not to mention a stock thatâs really been outperforming.
I would trade 20k TC down for google brand name since I never been flag companies or IVY schools. If you had both, I would say at least 30k TC to âdowngradeâ you to PANW. Googleâs RSU is vested every month, and guaranteed refresh every January, you got real money with more stable cash and expect 20k - 30k RSU. 401k, insurance, culture.
