Let’s say you are a remote worker making 110k from an SF company and currently live in a cheap CoL area. Comparable income for the following cities would be: NYC (Manhattan) - 270k SF - 215k Chicago - 135k Miami - 131k (+ no state income tax, so cheaper) LA - 165k My questions: 1) How the fuck does anyone afford NYC? There’s 0 chance I could find a job making 270k. How do these girls afford NYC? 2) My friends say to forget Miami if I don’t speak English. What do you think? 3) If I decided to switch jobs, would Miami be a good spot? 4) Would it make sense to buy a condo and rent it out after 2 years? 5) How is the dating scene?
Roommates, company pays for lots of free food and good insurance. Don't know which calculator you used, but your SF and NYC gap is too big, they're pretty much the same COL.

Wow, didn't realize Manhattan got that much more expensive. $5k is now median 2bed apartment? Looks like housing is the biggest difference. Keep in mind that's $1k more per month, $12k per year after tax, and likely $18k pre tax. So $55k difference overshoots it in my opinion.
Learn Spanish and get used to year round heat and hurricane season. :)
People learn to be resourceful af in New York. My first job in New York paid $45k a year. I had roommates. I spent about $30 a week on groceries. I ate out only occasionally. That doesn’t mean I didn’t have fun or have any creature comforts. I found nice furniture for cheap by scouring Craigslist. I took advantage of free admission days at museums and cheap rush tickets. It’s doable.
You need new friends if they’re saying you need to know Spanish(?) to live in Miami. DF?
