So, I currently work as a sales consultant (BDR/Inside Sales) in Denver, Colorado - less than a year in a closing position. I do not have a college education and I do not plan on obtaining one. Any tips for a young lad like myself: I am working to become a successful sales operator.
Either get your degree or start lying about having one. Unless you've already done something incredible, not having at least an undergrad degree will continually put you in a shadow.
Get an MBA to look good on paper or start your own firm. You won’t be taken seriously and it will take much longer to succeed without that piece of paper if you’re working for someone else.
In addition to degree, be active on LinkedIn.
A lot (a lot) of SaaS/tech sales companies require a Bachelor’s degree for Sales. It’s mostly classist gatekeeping but it’s naive to think you WON’T hit a ceiling. Go to CCD or Metro part time or do something online, but not getting a degree will haunt you in a profession as image driven as Sales.
Beyond that, work for the largest/most reputable company that will hire you with your background (genuinely not being snarky here) and aim to be in their top 25% of closers consistently. Find a mentor you admire to teach you what you don’t know you don’t know. Invest in good haircuts and clothes. Read the news so you always have something to talk about. Go to conferences and professional development when you can.
Thank you!

Why?
Unless you’re an entrepreneur or wiz kid, you’re in for a lifetime of financial mediocrity.
